Week 1 at Heartwood Ranch Bayfield, CO

June 9, 2008

There are carports out on one side of the houses and everyone parks their cars and walks to ther houses-there are garden carts to use if there are many items to transport from the car to the house but this way you are forced to interact wth your neighbors and those in your community-much unlike the standard way of drive your car into your garage, close the door and go inside without even seeing anyone. Things that are shared in the community in addition to meals: a common house with a commercial size kitchen, two guest rooms, a workout room and a reading library with a piano; an outdoor hot tub-clothing optional between evening hours; a yurt that can be used for outings, meetings or just hanging out; a tennis court; a green house with lots of things growing in it; and a wonderful play structure (you can see the video of the play structure). We have found two ranches where we have begun to source some of our food: La Boca Ranch (http://www.laboca.us/history/history9.html) (raw goats milk) and James Ranch (www.jamesranch.net/) (raw cow milk, cheese, beef and pork).

Sunday – Open House at La Boca Ranch

Sunday morning we attended mass in Bayfield at a very small church at St. Bartholomew. We arrived at 8:28 for the only mass of the day (8:30am) and the parking lot was full. We entered just before the mass began and an older gentleman waved to us to join him in the front row. Didn’t [...]

Warnings-noticed on Day 1

June 7, 2008

WARNINGS: There were many warning stickers on our RV when we first picked it up from the dealers. As I looked around and noticed these warnings I was ready to return this RV and go home, [...]

Day 6

June 7, 2008

Ran one final load of laundry (we are continuing to do cloth diapers so I have to wash them whenever I get a chance) before loading up the RV and heading into the town of Idyllwild to look at a couple of thrift store for some enamel dishes-of which we only found one. So currently [...]

Day 8 – On the Way to Heartwood

June 3, 2008

We had a Curly Sue breakfast as we were out of eggs and the grocery store, New Frontier Market didn’t open until 8:00am.
This store was really great! All the produce sans two items was organic. They has the nicest & biggest bulk food section-they even had local honey, agave grade B maple syrup, spelt flour, [...]

Photos at the Four Corners-extension of day 8

June 2, 2008

Jonathan always remembered his family trip out west when he was a child and one of the places they stopped was at the Four Corners. Conveniently it was directly on our way to Heartwood from Flagstaff, AZ, so we were able to stop.
Here’s Nadine wearing her wonderful birthday gift from the Norris family!
It was quite [...]

May 31, 2008

Day 2
After coming from our grocery shopping excursion (Trader Joes and Costco) both children fell asleep and we had a $20 voucher for slots at the Casino associated with the Loews Resort. I wanted to go in and play, but once inside I didn’t have my ID so I was not able to play and [...]

Lead up to Trip

May 31, 2008

Hello!
Big changes are happening with us!  We have sold our house-actually it is currently in a lease to own until Feb. 1, 2010 when the person will take ownership, hopefully.  We have sold most of our big items (i.e. furniture) and all our other items are either being stored in a small room in our [...]
